How to get a Valencia Marathon bib: the ballot
According to the official registration information, since 2026 the process works like this:
- A 4-day priority window, right after the previous edition, for those who had a bib that year.
- Free registration for the ballot, over about ten days in December. A bank card is required, with a temporary 5-euro hold.
- A ballot before a notary in mid-January. Successful applicants have about 12 days to pay for their bib.
- Unfilled places go to the official waiting list, at a price of 200 euros.
You can enter the ballot individually or in a group of up to three. The organisers only recognise their own registration platform and the travel packages of their authorised agencies.

Valencia Marathon strategy
The course has World Athletics Platinum Label status, the highest category for road races. Check the profile on the official website and bear the following in mind:
- Carb load in the days before; I explain it in the guide to carb loading.
- With the start split into nine waves, there is no need to go out fast to find space. Start calmly and settle into your pace; the strategy is in the guide to the negative split.
- Carry your gels and start taking them early; there is how many in the guide to running gels.
- If you are travelling, arrive with time to visit the Expo; there are tips in the guide to travelling to a race.
If you need more preparation, there is the marathon training plan and the guide to the sub-4 marathon.
