ASICS Gel-Nimbus 28 Review: Features, Specs and Verdict
The ASICS Gel-Nimbus 28 is ASICS’s max-cushion neutral shoe, designed for runners who put comfort above everything. This version is lighter than the previous one, keeps a very tall, protective midsole and stands out for step-in comfort, although its foam doesn’t return much energy.
This review is based on official ASICS data and on published lab tests and reviews, such as RunRepeat, not on our own testing. The rating on the card, 8.6 out of 10, is an approximate score based on those reviews.
What’s new in the ASICS Gel-Nimbus 28
The Nimbus 28 weighs less than the 27 and improves the outsole with hybrid ASICSGRIP rubber, which grips well. It still uses FF Blast+ foam and a max-stack midsole. The price goes up again, for the second version in a row.

Differences between official and measured figures are normal: brands usually give the weight of a specific size and measure drop differently. If you want to understand what they mean, I explain it in the guide on drop, cushioning and carbon plate.

Midsole and ride
The midsole absorbs impact very well and is stable despite its height. The FF Blast+ foam feels comfortable and flat rather than lively. In lab testing the measured drop was quite a bit lower than the official figure, making it better suited than previous versions to midfoot and forefoot strikers.
Upper and fit
Lockdown is excellent and step-in comfort is among the best in its category. It is fairly warm, which makes it good in the cold and a bit hot in summer.
To get the size right, follow the steps in the guide on running shoe size.
Outsole and durability
The hybrid ASICSGRIP rubber offers very good grip on the road, including in the wet.

Who is the ASICS Gel-Nimbus 28 for?
Runners who value comfort over performance, easy runs and long runs, and midfoot or forefoot strikers looking for lots of cushioning.
Who it isn’t for: if you want a bouncy shoe for upbeat paces, its foam feels flat and there are cheaper, livelier options.
