New Balance Ellipse v1 Review: Features, Specs and Verdict
The New Balance Ellipse v1 is a daily trainer new for 2026, with soft Fresh Foam X and an official 8 mm drop. Its official price is €150 and BIKILA has it from €114.95, a discount that brings it close to cheap running shoes territory even if it is a little over €100.
This review brings together the official data from newbalance.es and the lab measurements from RunRepeat. We have not tested it. The score, 8.5 out of 10, is RunRepeat’s.
What is new in the New Balance Ellipse v1
It is the first version, so there is no predecessor to compare. New Balance describes it as an everyday shoe that pairs Fresh Foam X comfort with a bouncy feel. RunRepeat expected the usual foam and found something different: Fresh Foam X used to return 55 to 60% of energy in its lab, while the Ellipse reached 64.6% at the heel and 71.6% at the forefoot, against an average of 61.5%.

Midsole and ride
RunRepeat measured shock absorption of 146 at the heel and 113 at the forefoot, high values that make it suitable for short daily runs and long runs alike. Flexibility sits in the middle: 14.7 N in its 30-degree bend test.
It flags two drawbacks. Stability is limited, so it is not the best choice if you want a very firm base. And the foam stiffens noticeably in the cold, worth knowing if you run early on winter mornings.

New Balance Ellipse v1 upper and fit
True to size according to RunRepeat, and the toebox does not taper aggressively. The upper is more substantial than on other daily trainers: New Balance accepted a few extra grams for comfort and durability. The official site sells it in narrow, standard, wide and extra wide.
Outsole and durability
The rubber is 3.3 mm thick. RunRepeat rates outsole durability as decent and expects that thickness to give it a normal lifespan.

Who the New Balance Ellipse v1 is for
Runners who want a soft, bouncy daily trainer for easy and long runs and like a slightly higher drop. It is not the best choice if you need stability or often run in low temperatures.
Pros and cons
Pros: energy return well above what Fresh Foam X usually gives, shock absorption, a comfortable upper and four widths.
Cons: limited stability, foam that loses consistency in the cold and outsole durability that is only decent.

Alternatives to the New Balance Ellipse v1
Cheaper and with a higher RunRepeat score, the Saucony Ride 19. More stable with excellent grip, the adidas Supernova Rise 3. All six are compared in our guide to cheap running shoes.
